THE OPEN SHELTER
(DER OFFENE ORT IM WALD)

School Forest
‘Design for the Living World’ class HFBK by invitation of Springhornhof Foundation
in collaboration with Elementary and High School Neuenkirchen

‘a safe place is especially a warm place‘
creating and building a biomeiler (large pile of compost, which creates heat from accumulated biomass) – a circular concrete form with a surface – a “warm place”
the biomeiler also provides warm water for washings hands
observing and interacting with this system clarifys systems in nature
later:
deconstruction because of disfunction after time
going back to another design idea – using the material to build different roof and shelter structures
place for students to relax – to open their minds to the processes of nature around them
